My momma's heart is preparing for the launch of TWO college-bound sons this fall, praying over their safety and for each of them to follow the Lord's path for them.
Due to all the uncertainties of Covid-19 right now, it's natural to be anxious and want to hide our chicks away from potential exposure, isn't it? However, our young adults need the space to take on their own personal responsibility and make the most of the opportunities they have before them. We don't need to live in fear; we need to equip ourselves and persevere.
We've had an incredibly rare gift of time to have all of our boys home together for five months. We're all ready to stretch out of our safety cocoon and emerge back into some of our own personal routines. I'm ramping up my prayers and thoughtfully considering what each son needs to branch out - - - yet stay connected....to us, to each other, and ultimately with Christ.
My devotional reading in John 15 this morning was a sweet reminder of our connectedness in Christ. I Bible Quilted this passage into one of my son's journals, honing my prayer over him to ABIDE in Christ throughout this school year and beyond.
The Passion version uses the phrase "life-union" which really highlights the mutual commitment of our relationship in Christ, allowing the Lord to nurture and prune us along the way so that we can bear fruit for His eternal glory.
I was particularly heartened by verse 16, so I'll leave you with it:
"You didn't choose ME, but I've chosen and commissioned YOU
to go into the world and bear fruit." John 15:16
