My name is Michelle Therese. I'm an American Navy veteran living on our organic sheep and cattle farm here in Scotland - married to my
Scottish farmer man Erlend. We have three young children, Elspeth who is 11 and our twins Ingebjørg and Benjamin who are 10. I moved here because at the time me and Erlend met I was living in a really cool one room cabin up in Alaska but it was very small and here was Erlend with an entire farm so it just made sense! (I mean, he even had **flush toilets** and hot water! Betty rocker you sweet talker!) And we've had quite the adventure together the 14 years I've been here on our little island!
I very recently discovered "Bible Quilting" and immediately thought WOW our kids would really love to learn how to do this! We have no TV and we encourage creativity and reading books and all sorts of imaginative playtime. So our bairns really do love artsy things and I want to introduce them to Bible study that goes beyond just "sit still and listen!"... they are at the age now that they want to get involved more with helping to search things out! And what better time to start than right "in the bleak mid winter..." when it's so dark here and we are getting pounded by gales and rain and hail while we hide out in our wee little stone farmhouse? (We got one big fat gale howling right now as I type!)
On the flip side we get 24 hour daylight at the height of summer and we have an old dairy building that we converted to an art studio - can't really use it in winter but by summer we'll be Bible Quilting away and can move our MESS out there and off the kitchen table hah! Now I know what we can do with the stash of Washi tape and stickers I've amassed over the years!
We farm organic sheep and cattle and I am working to build up a flock of Shetland ewes especially for producing organic wool. So far I have one whole Shetland ewe... an ancient crotchety old lady full of spunk and tenacity - I just love her! Always stomping her hooves at me as she walks over to eat some feed from my hand so the kids named her "Stompy"
It's proving to be difficult to source organic Shetland ewes.... never expected that hah!
We are a rather wacky little family full of fun :-)
God bless and have a beautiful day!!
In Christ,
Michelle Therese
Hi y’all! I’m Stephanie Farquhar and I live in Tulsa and have known Dianna for several yrs now. She introduced our Community Bible Study leadership to BQ on our yearly retreat. It was so much fun but BQing has come a long way since then with the journals! She amazes me with how creative she is adding amazing new things every year!
We lost our Moms the same year within a couple weeks apart. Dwelling in the Word was healing and I was so blessed to be active before and after. And having Dianna encouraging me even in her own loss.
It is so great meeting all of you ladies near and far! Welcome!! How fun it would be to meet in person! And one day we shall in our Heavenly home!! Michelle mu husband is of Scottish background. I hear there is a Castle in Scotland named the Farquhar Castle! We had hoped to come one day but unfortunately I don’t think we will get to! My heritage is Irish and it would have been so fun to go to Ireland as well to see all the beautiful country! I love all your pictures and hearing all you are doing! My Dads family had a dairy farm Hogan Dairy Farm in Texas! My grandmother had a pet cow that ran to the fence when she saw her coming because she knew Ma had her a sugar cube! Welcome and Im finally getting my BQ and study room together! I will look forward to making the next Zoom!
I’ve missed all the normal lately but haven’t forgot this wonderful group!
Michelle, I apologize for my post. Obviously I was not quite awake. You will love our group. Our leader is Dianna, not Diane. 😳😔
Hi Michelle! I’m Mel from Texas! We will love our group! Di is an excellent leader and is passionate about Bible quilting. The process draws you closer to God. All of the women in our group are warm and friendly and encouraging. Can’t wait to see you and your work. If you need anything, we are all available to assist, as is Diane.
It's so fun to meet Michelle and Liza! I love reading about your lives!
Hello, Michele! I'm completely new - actually just ordered my BQ journal. But when I saw "Scotland" and "sheep" I had to respond! My BFF went to Shetland last year and brought back some wool for me - she had such a lovely time on her visit! There are always drawbacks to living in different places but joys easily outnumber them! My children are grown but I have ten grandchildren (nine of them are nine years or under) and we are a family who doesn't like too much "media entertainment". Anyway, hope you are well and God's blessings on you and your family! Liza
Wow! Now I want to come and visit...a Bible Quilting expedition someday perhaps?
What an adventure you're having. Love all the pics and your sense of humor! Your kiddos look like they are having a BLAST on the farm!
I'm so excited go have your fun family on this Bible Quilting journey. Browse around on the site to get familiar with it all. You might take a peek at the Kids Club pages and the ABC boards.
Blessings to you & yours,
Dianna
