Next week will be a time of gathering together around tables laden with good food to enjoy some feasting with family and friends.
Thanksgiving provides us with an opportunity to slow down and reflect upon all the things we're grateful for.
There are many ways to "count our blessings." Do you have a favorite?
Our Bible Quilting friend, Sandra from Alabama, designed this cute lil turkey template which provides us with a format to gather up scriptures of blessing & thanksgiving.
I used the 7 x 10 size in my Monthly BQJ (8.5 x 11) so that I could put colorful paper behind it as a background frame. Then I glued the template onto the seasonal plaid.
As I began adding scriptures into the quilt squares, I had the idea to "fancy up" the turkey feathers by using decorative paper. If you'd like to try this, I'd recommend making a copy of the turkey so you can cut out the individual feathers to use as a stencil.
Tip: Number the cutouts so you don't get confused regarding placement. This will allow you to use them again as cutout stencils to invite others to do a turkey BQ page with you!
Make it into a family craft as you gather together. Kids will love personalizing the turkey!
Once you've got all the tail feathers cut out of cute patterned paper, glue each one onto Mr. Tom. You can write things you're grateful for onto each of the feathers as a visual of thankfulness.
Color in the rest of the turkey and begin writing in your selected verses.
You can use fall stickers and washi tape to add a final flourish, then you'll have a lovely BQ display for Thanksgiving!
