Are you a note-taker when you attend women's conferences or retreats?
How do you summarize what you're learning so you can recall it later?
I like to prep some BQ pages prior to a Bible study or conference.
Sometimes if you know the text being covered, you can prep Bible Quilt pages ahead of time to refamiliarize yourself with the passages. I believe this prepares our hearts to be more open to the message we are about to receive.
For our fall women's retreat, the speaker is sharing her thoughts on passages from John 14-16 so I spent some time this week Bible Quilting this text.
I love this process of slowing down to write each sentence that Jesus said, allowing myself a chance to consider his approach to teaching His disciples and their responses to Him.
It's a good time to review highlighted areas and margin notes in my Bible, reminding myself of previous time spent with these scriptures.
Sometimes I'll print out a template that fits well with a passage. This gives me a good kickstart for illustrating the concepts and structuring some quilt blocks.
Other times I'll just "freestyle" on blank pages, using washi tape and stickers to embellish along the way.
Then I can shade in as we get into the passage during the retreat, highlighting keywords that the speaker is emphasizing.
Although we're often busy with all the details leading up to event, taking some extra time to quiet our busy hands and minds allows our souls to prepare for the restoration ahead.
I'm looking forward to sweet fellowship with my church community this weekend and the opportunity to share a little more about Bible Quilting.
What are you anticipating for this weekend in your quiet time, family gatherings, or church events?
I hope sharing my process helps you prepare for your next retreat or conference.
Gathering together sometimes stretches us out of our comfort zone as we engage with one another in different ways than the typical church interactions. This may be tender ground in which the Holy Spirit can draw us closer to Him and to one another in community, so those "growing pains" are worth it!
If you have your own process with insights to share, please add them in the comments below!
