Women of the Word Bible Quilt® Journal: Hagar

Writer's picture: DiannaDianna

Whenever we encounter strong female characters in our Bible reading, we can summarize their stories on a Bible Quilt Journal page. I'm developing a journal specifically on this genre, Women of the Bible, as I do this scripture writing. I invite you to follow along and welcome you to personalize your own resource!

Hagar

We find the story of Hagar, Sarah's maidservant, in the book of Genesis. Her story is closely and complexly intertwined with Sarah's yet she has a significant encounter with God in her own right.

We learn about her name for God, El Roi, "The God Who Sees Me." Don't we all long to be SEEN by God?

I used one of the flip cards from our set on the Names of God, punching it to include it in my disc-bound journal.

I used post-it notes for some additional color as well as cut out materials from a resource.

Setting up your own BQ pages

This set of templates with generic female figures can help you get started on pages about Women of the Bible. As seen above, you can experiment with colored card stock to print out templates or to use as freestyle pages. This gives you instant background color so there's less coloring you need to do.

I've also made a set of tabs to use for many women named in the Bible.

Whether you're doing an independent reading, attending a Bible study focused on a character or a book of the Bible, these tabs can provide you with a quick way to categorize your BQ journal.

Attach these directly to your BQ page or use washi tape to add it to a page protector if you're using a 3-ring binder.

For loose BQJ pages, I often slip them into page protectors until I determine which BQ journal they're going in. By placing them into a 3-ring binder, I have flexibility to move pages around until I've determined the sequence I'd like to use for these character summaries in my Bible Quilt Journal.

Another option is to use a Happy planner punch system and build your journal over time. The pictures shown in this post show examples of printing templates onto colored card stock and inserting them into a disc-bound journal.
