We're familiar with Sarah, the first wife of Abraham. We learn in Genesis 25 that after Sarah died, Abraham took another wife. Her name was Keturah and she bore him six sons.
Since Abraham was promised to have "descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky," I figured it was important to document this part of his lineage in addition to Sarah's.
To document Keturah's story, I hole-punched a piece of colored card stock to insert it into my Women of the Word Bible Quilt Journal. I made a title out of patterned scrapbook paper, using alpha stickers to spell out her name.
Keturah is also mentioned in 1 Chronicles. I used a printout of that passage to summarize all the names (a quick reference with correct spellings, too.)
I've left space for any additional notes I may take from other resources. Keturah is not a major character covered in typical devotionals, so it may take some more focused exploration.
I'm using a Happy planner punch system to build my Women of the Word BQ Journal over time.
If you're ready to launch into a similar project covering women of the Bible, I've prepared a digital version of a 52-page Women of the Word Bible Quilt Journal that you can use as a foundation for Bible Quilting these ladies' stories. It includes the set of tabs shown in the photos above as well as a sticker page to help launch your illustrations.
Printed options are described and available here
An advantage of using a binder system is that you can move pages around or add pages as you continue to study these women over time.
There's more info in this blog post about setting up a similar BQ journal.
Would you approach this project as women appear in the Bible or as you encounter them in your devotional time or Bible study?
Please share in the comments below or in our BQJ Facebook group. I'm looking forward to hearing from you and hearing about YOUR process.
Join our next #zoomchat to discuss this and other BQ ideas!
