Women of the Word Bible Quilt® Journal: Lot's Wife and Daughters

Writer's picture: DiannaDianna

As we continue reading through Genesis and note-taking about Women of the Bible, we encounter the dramatic story of Lot's wife being turned into a pillar of salt.

Lot's Wife

Since this was a fairly intense passage with notable background I wanted to have available as context, I opted to print out the text onto pages to insert into my Women of the Word BQ Journal using a Happy Planner punch system.

I highlighted and annotated directly on these printed text pages, which provided me with plenty of space to take notes on the next BQ summary page in my journal.

I attached a tab for Lot's Wife and another for Lot's daughters, gluing them back to back as I sandwiched them over the edge of the page. I also made a small tab for the Genesis passage.

To begin my summary page, I wrote the key verse in which Lot's wife is mentioned in Genesis.

"But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt."  Genesis 19:26

Then I wrote the passage from Luke in which Jesus refers to Lot's wife as a warning. I drew stitch lines and boxed key words/phrases as well as added washi tape to delineate space between quilt blocks.

I used an acryclic stamp for my "lessons to be applied" section in which I added some reflections and posed questions to continue to ponder.

Remember it's okay to leave blank space for future notes, reflections, or comments.

Lot's Daughters

Building upon the previous page of Genesis, I also printed a passage specifically about Lot's daughters.

This enabled me to have a quick reference in which to highlight key figures, actions, and the daughters' plot line.

Then I could summarize and add notes on the remainder of the page.

Once again I had questions to consider, so I just left these as prompts to return to when I review these pages in the future. I can also add more embellishments later.

None of these women were named specifically, which I find interesting. Perhaps that allows us to apply their lessons more directly to our own situations in which we are disobedient to warnings or trying to take matters into our own hands rather than patiently awaiting God's provision?

These are hard passages to read, yet applicable to the broken world we live in today and a reminder to heed God's warnings.
